Music With Mrs. Van believes that music education should be accessible to everyone. Music is an enjoyable way for children and adults to improve their emotional and social skills by sharing in a group class. We strive to create a welcoming and inclusive community where students develop in all domains through a supportive environment.
An area of special interest is the Early Years. As parents, caregivers and families we create community in our interactions and connections made through music and movement. Our group classes are on hold currently but you can turn on streaming and dance with your baby! You'll be developing neural pathways and bonding.
We offer various music education options, including private lessons on violin and piano, group classes, and workshops. We are here to support your musical joueney. Our programs are designed to meet the needs of kids of all ages and skill levels, from beginners to advanced musicians.

Learning an instrument, playing in an ensemble, and exploring musical concepts prepares you for success in many other areas including social skills, cognitive development and overall mental health. Music education teaches perseverance, eye-hand coordination, teamwork, listening skills, confidence and much more!

I have studied piano and violin through the Royal Toronto Conservatory system. I have had a variety of teachers over the years and learned from each of them ways to teach myself and others. I took additional piano pedagogy classes from Dr. Winifred Wood at the Victoria Conservatory of Music in the 1990's . I attended Central Washington University (2016-2019) where I studied additional music education classes focusing on Strings pedagogy. My own children took the Suzuki Method from Mrs. Barb Riley (personally trained by Dr. Suzuki) so I'm familiar with that philosophy. I earned a Masters in Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education in 2021. I continue to be a member of the National Music Teachers Association. Supporting young children and families continues to be my special interest.
I come from a musical culture and musical family. My grandparents in the Czech Republic had a mandolin ensemble in their home or community church. It was a way of bringing the community together and helping everyone feel included. When our family immigrated to Canada, familiar hymns created a sense of connection. I started piano lesson
I come from a musical culture and musical family. My grandparents in the Czech Republic had a mandolin ensemble in their home or community church. It was a way of bringing the community together and helping everyone feel included. When our family immigrated to Canada, familiar hymns created a sense of connection. I started piano lessons at age 7 and violin at age 10. Our home was also filled with music, singing daily whether it was learning hymns or listening to records or the radio. In high school I joined choir and sometimes accompanied them. I started teaching piano at age 17. Music has continued to be a part of my life from concerts in senior homes to singing in the Symphony choir and teaching all ages. I continue to believe in the power of music to communicate, to bring community together and to support healthy development.
